I will recommend the best of what I have discovered to you both on this website and in my John Watson Publishing Ezine. Some of the information will be free; some will be for sale. The Ezine is entirely free and may well include links to free downloads of ebooks and useful software.
Click on Ebooks and/or Software in the left hand menu to see some of the products which are already available.
I don't recommend buying lots of ebooks and software all at once since I have made this mistake myself and have ended up reading or using very few of them.
If you like the look of an ebook that I recommend make sure you read it first before you move on to something else.
If you don't follow that policy you will end up with your hard drive full of unread ebooks and unused software.
This site also provides links and occasionally info to other topics like health, self-help, motivation, religious education and self-defence.
To check out some self-help books click on the Self-Help or Motivation link in the left menu or visit

The Solution To Expensive Internet Marketing Products by John Watson
For several years I have bought expensive internet marketing products and courses and have probably spent over £20,000 or $45,000 on them.
My front room is filled with products by the great American and Canadian gurus like Marlon Sanders, Yanik Silver, Mark Joyner, John Reese, Corey Rudl, Derek Gehl and Randy Charach
I also have high ticket internet marketing products and courses by British marketing experts like Andrew Reynolds, John Lisgo, John Harrison and Michael Green.
The upside of this is that I have at my fingertips all the information I need to learn how to make money on the net. Possessing all these products can only increase one's confidence.
I know that I can be inspired and informed any time I have the energy and determination to take out a manual and study it or have an hour or so to watch a DVD on internet marketing.
The downside is that because so much is available, I have had trouble focusing on the advice of any one guru and several expensive courses are not even opened.
I don't think I am alone in this. Some studies have shown that over 90% of people do not open the courses they buy. Of those, who do open the courses, the vast majority do not complete them.
It is only too easy to be distracted by the next best product being promoted heavily by expert marketers who know how to make the product they are currently promoting seem indispensable.
By the time large amounts of money have been spent on expensive courses and seminars, much less money is available to advertise the products you need to sell to make money on the net. Also, much less money is available to pay for hosting, web-designing and mentoring.
Fortunately there are some solutions to the problems described above.
Do not buy the next best product or course until you have made full use of the last one you bought. If we actually read and apply what we learn from an expensive course, we will be able to pay for the next expensive course without stretching our resources.
The net is crowded with the testimonials of those who have profited from the advice in the course they paid for because they took action and applied what they learned.
Another solution is to wait until the expensive course on offer has been around for a few months or even weeks. Usually a less expensive alternative will appear magically either from the original product creator or from other marketers who have created their own versions of the original.
For example, early in 2006, the talk was about Butterfly Marketing by Mike Filsaime. Mike is a highly respected internet marketing guru and many people have praised the power of this product. The original price of Butterfly Marketing was $997. The price has now increased to $1497.
However, part of the original product, the Butterfly Marketing Manuscript, is now available from Mike himself at a much cheaper price and many marketers are describing the manuscript as the heart of the product. If you can't afford the whole product, buy a cheaper part of it.
More recently, Ewen Chia, has put a mega product on affiliate marketing on sale at a high price but already I have seen at least one alternative which claims to include some of the material to be found in the expensive product. The alternative is much cheaper.
Another solution is to follow the step by step advice of an experienced mentor.
I am currently following the advice of Liz Tomey who is a highly successful marketer and a very capable mentor. Already I have learned and achieved more than I have from all those expensive courses that I have not yet opened. Since then I have taken an excellent course by Michael Cheney.
To sum up, make full use of the last product you bought before you buy anything else. Learn and apply what you learn. Wait until you can buy a cheaper alternative to the product or course you cannot afford. Follow the steps laid out by an experience mentor. This will help you focus on one course of action instead of flying like a butterfly from one attractive offer to another.
The author, John Watson, has been studying internet marketing for several years and has bought nearly every major internet course and product that exists.
Beware coypright infringement
Recently a well known marketer was threatened with a law suit of $150,000 for infringing copyright. He settled out of court for a payment of $3000 dollars. This should not put us off marketing but should warn us to make sure we have the rights to sell whatever we are selling. Bob Silber has explained the situation well and given permission for his explanation to be published on other people's websites. His post is below:
This is from my newsletter today. I thought I would post it here in the hopes of saving other marketers, a like experience.
You are the judge. What would you do?
A Top Marketer's Worst Viral Legal Nightmare - A True Story
Mary, a wealthy and successful marketer, buys software that generates legal forms for Web sites, purported to comply
with the state and federal U.S. laws, including the Federal
Trade Commission rules and regulations. The software was sold
from a Web site with an address in Ireland.
The software, sells for $19.97 and comes with master resale rights built in, so whoever resells or buys the product,
from Mary, gets those rights too. Mary sells the software to others. Unknown to Mary, some of the forms generated by the
software, were pirated products, with registered copyrights.
Mary receives a cease and desist letter, from the owner of
the pirated products, demanding damages. Is Mary liable?
... And This Is The Answer ...
This is a true story and the marketer shall remain nameless.
The facts are a lawyer's delight for two reasons. First,
that person, is what is referred to, in the legal
profession, as having "deep pockets," meaning the person
committing the offense has substantial assets to go after.
Second, the marketer has no defense to the act because,
even if the act was done unintentionally, Federal copyright
law provides no immunity for so called "innocent" copyright
infringement. The only question remains is how much of the
marketers assets will be lost. Federal law allows statutory
damages to $150,000 for each work infringed. As you can see,
it doesn't take too many sales of an infringing work to
reach an astronomical amount of damages.
That is the first wave of liability and damages, now let's
look at the rest of the marketer's liability exposure.
The potential cost of litigating one copyright infringement
lawsuit in Federal court, can cost the marketer in excess of $100,000.00. Add to that, ongoing lawsuits, as we will now discuss, and you have some serious legal expenses on top of the liability.
The next wave of legal liability begins on two fronts. The copyright holder now has damages against everyone in the chain that the marketer sold the rights to, and everyone
they sold it to, so on and so on. Like the viral marketing
concept, it is now an unstoppable virus, infecting anyone
that bought or sold the software, with liability for
copyright infringement.
As violators are tracked down by the copyright owner,
everyone that bought the software from the marketer now has
liability for copyright infringement and a claim against the
marketer that was their source for the original infringing
product. That claim arises both for their attorney fees and
damages paid from settlement or damages awarded in
litigation of their infringement.
Setting aside the questionable efficacy and wisdom of
relying on some product for your legal needs, sold by
someone that is not an attorney, let alone some unknown guy
in Ireland, in an attempt to be compliant with the United
States Federal Trade commission laws and regulations, there
is additional liability, for the marketer, to everyone in
the chain. If the legal documents are legally insufficient
protections, causing fines or asset seizures from the FTC,
then the marketer is on the liability hook again. Legal
documents are tricky even for lawyers. In law, omitting a
single word, or having a wrong word can cause serious
liability.
One only needs to review the FTC fines against Mrs. Fields Cookies and Hershey's Chocolate, two major corporations,
that were fined $100,000 and $80,000 respectively, by the
Federal Trade Commission, for having an improperly worded
privacy statement on their sites. Apparently their lawyers
weren't familiar with all the nuances of Internet law and
FTC requirements.
NOTE: Please, let this be a cautionary tale. It is
important to protect yourself from circumstances like this.
Copyright infringement is serious. Do your due diligence
when you are offering products where you are not the original
author. Ask for proof, check the licenses and ask
questions. Failing to do so can quickly put you and your
family in the poor house for one instance of copyright
infringement, let alone the multiple exposure to liability,
as set forth in the facts above.
